December 2026 President's Message

Season鈥檚 Greetings, WVC Community!

Full-Time Faculty Prioritization

The faculty prioritization process for the upcoming academic year has concluded, and I wish to extend my sincere appreciation to our department chairs, faculty, and deans for their thoughtful and sustained engagement in this important work. The submission of twenty-one requests for the 2026 to 2027 academic year reflects a profound commitment to our students, our programs, and the long-term vitality of the college. I recognize the significant time, analysis, and collaboration required to articulate program needs and course offerings that advance student success. Your care for our community is evident in every stage of this effort, and it is deeply valued.

Please review the four sets of full-time faculty prioritization rankings from the Academic Senate, the Academic Affairs Council, and the Academic Affairs Leadership Team, each of which has informed my President ranking.

combined faculty prioritization table

The President鈥檚 prioritization list was shaped by a comprehensive set of qualitative and quantitative indicators. These included the ratio of full-time and part-time faculty, enrollment trends and student demand, course fill rates, number of course sections, personnel considerations, and student achievement data. Additional factors included program vitality and alignment with strategic direction, commitments to equity and inclusion, faculty workload, external and regional labor market indicators, fiscal considerations, accreditation and compliance requirements, and the capacity of programs to support innovation. Together, these criteria ensure a holistic and responsible approach to stewarding our academic resources.

The hiring of future permanent faculty remains essential to fulfilling our mission to provide the highest quality educational services. I remain profoundly grateful for the care, professionalism, and scholarly rigor that our college community brings to this process. I look forward to the upcoming hiring season and to the continued collaboration that strengthens our shared work.

An update on faculty positions will be provided at the December 11 College Council meeting. Check out our Work at WVC webpage /offices/academic-affairs/work.html.

In community, and happy holidays!
