Doors to the new Digital Music Center in the Wang & Qu Family Learning Resource Commons opened at the start of spring semester, and it has already served as a venue where students studying music production and digital media had the chance to learn from a Grammy-winning pro.
The upgraded space features state-of-the-art recording and production studios, and a digital media computer lab equipped with professional hardware and software. By mirroring professional production environments, the facility gives students hands-on experience with industry-level tools to record, edit, produce, and collaborate on multimedia projects, helping prepare them for careers in today鈥檚 digital media and creative industries.
To commemorate the opening of the new space 鈥 and equip students with real-world insights 鈥 the Music Department hosted its first event in the recording studio February 23. The 鈥淢onetize Your Music鈥 workshop featured a Q&A session with two-time Latin Grammy Award winner Michael Lazarus and nearly 40 WVC attendees.
A producer and mix/mastering engineer with award-winning albums and film and TV credits, Lazarus is president and cofounder of OCHO Music Group, a Latin music catalog placing artists鈥 music in film, TV, trailers, ads, and video games.
The conversation covered topics such as building meaningful connections, landing gigs, growing a professional network, and navigating today鈥檚 digital landscape of streaming platforms.
